Refined Mango Butter | Nourishing, Soothing & Hydrating

Mango butter is refined from the kernel of the mango fruit. Mango butter is rich in vitamins A and E and allantoin*, and belongs to the group of non-drying oils. It is slowly absorbed and leaves the skin feeling firm and smooth. The oil binds moisture in the skin cells and therefore provides excellent protection against dehydration. As the name suggests, the oil has a butter-like consistency at room temperature and only becomes liquid above 30 °C.

*Allantoin acts as a ‘keratolytic’. Keratin is a protein found in our hair and in the upper layer of cells in our skin (epidermis). Allantoin softens keratin, allowing the skin to retain water more effectively. This makes the skin more hydrated, softer and more supple. Allantoin also dissolves the ‘glue layer’ between dead skin cells, helping to remove the layer of dead skin cells and creating a soft, smooth and glowing surface. By removing the upper layer of dead skin cells, the production of new cells is stimulated.

Allantoin is a popular ingredient in beauty products because, at a concentration of 0.5 - 2.0%, it has proven effective for:

  • preventing diaper rash,
  • protecting dry, irritated or chapped skin or lips,
  • soothing the skin in cases of burns, sunburn, minor cuts and abrasions,
  • soothing cold sores and blisters,
  • stimulating the production of new cells, helping to accelerate wound healing,
  • hydrating the skin and improving skin texture.
